Springfield welcomed students and friends to the 12th Blue Grass Graded School Tournament with school colors in display. Competing from Stanford Lebanon Pleasureville Harrodsburg Bardstown and St Marys, eight junior and senior orators, a vocal contest, and a broad range of grammar and high school events featured. Winners included Dewey Woolstein and William Waters Jr in declamation, Miss Mary Haydon and Miss Sallye Eggleston in vocal, with Miss May Mayes and Miss Isa Colvin among top performers. Aged Man Richard Montgomery Dies in Louisville
Richard Montgomery died at his Louisville home last Sunday after a brief illness of old age. Former resident of this county he was well known and had many friends who learned of his death with regret. He was a kind Christian gentleman and a member of the Catholic church. The body was brought here and interred in St Rose cemetery yesterday afternoon.

Death of Mr. Buster in Boyle county at 63
Mr N I Buster died suddenly of paralysis at the home of his son in law Dr J B Robards in this place last Saturday at about 2 am after a prior stroke. He lived in Boyle county since birth and was a wealthy farmer and stock raiser. He served as vice president of Mercer National Bank Harrodsburg for about twenty five years until ill health forced his resignation. He was a devout Christian and member of the Christian church. Interment was in Danville on Monday. He is survived by a widow three sons and two daughters John N I Jr Everett Buster Mrs D Bowman Moore and Mrs John Robards.

Fire destroys Dr Mudd's stable after town tourney
The stable of Dr J C Mudd burned last Wednesday night around 10 30 causing loss of buggies harness and feed while one horse was saved and another severely burned. Firemen and waterworks earned praise as spectators left the Opera House area. Two town accidents followed including Mr Logan Walker's horse frightened by a Columbia drivers auto and a near miss involving Mr J R Wharton’s horse and a Lebanon driver Roy Montgomery. Mr Hert faces charges and bond was posted. Walker plans civil suit.

Oldest minister Wesley Graham dies at 96 near Duncan
The Rev. Wesley W. Graham, among the state’s oldest men and possibly the oldest gospel minister in the United States, died suddenly at his Mercer county home near Duncan on a Sunday after a long life of service. He united with Grapevine church in 1883, preached most of his life, kept a 50 year diary, and never took pay. His long record includes a legendary weather diary and strict frugality. He rode a 30 year old mare and left a cherished diary to his grandson.
