A rallying call from Rogers Gork urged farmers in Springfield and Washington County to join a pooling movement to secure fair prices and mutual support. The message frames farming as a shared, lawful effort against centralized trusts, urging merchants professionals and women to back the pool and sign up the 1907 crop plan.
The longtime Marion county resident John E. Smith died at his son J Rich Smith's home in St Rose last Sunday at age seventy seven. He served as a distiller in his youth, held to total temperance since age seventeen, and left 500 to 600 acres to his children. Funeral services were at St Rose with interment there.
Two dwellings were destroyed by fire this week. The VanArndale home in Litsey neighborhood burned after a defective fire, valued at 1800 with 800 of insurance. contents were saved. Mrs Cheat ham’s Willisburg residence burned Feb 12, with piano lost and no contents insured. Fire caused by heat on roof. neighbors arrived too late.
Mrs. C L Brady received a letter announcing the death of her brother Scott Durham in Patton California. He had moved from Washington County to improve his health. A later telegram asked for money to cover express charges, suggesting possible negligence. He was twenty seven, well known locally, and the body awaited shipment home. The Sun and friends extend sympathy.
