Louisville tobacco leader predicts record Burley crop in 1909 driven by higher prices and farmer confidence. He cites acreage expansion in Kentucky and other states, reduced past oversupply, and shift to independent farming. Hansbrough of Haleyville and Cass of Bristol Tenn were married last evening at Jasper Inn parlors. Rev. F W Irvin officiated before a small gathering. The bride wore a light gray tailored suit with a matching picture hat. Attendants were Miss Julia Howell and Mr. Oscar Drake.
Owensboro area farmer Atwell Haynes, who has spent over two thousand dollars on a six year ginseng patch, has concealed more than an acre with bear traps. The plan leaked after a hardware dealer and a hired helper revealed details. Haynes aims to deter thefts with a harsh warning device.
Messrs. Otho Hatchett and Sam Anderson and Shultz and Riedel prepare invoicing of stock bought from the latter. Invoicing will finish in a few days and the new firm will be ready for business. Both gentlemen are popular and friends期待 their success.

Relatives in Fountain Run hear of the deaths of Mrs. James C. Bishop and Mrs. Martha Francis within hours of each other. Mrs. Bishop choked on a biscuit at table while speaking to her son and died minutes later. Mrs. Francis died by self-inflicted strangulation nearby. The deaths cast gloom over the region.
Albert Rudd and Ella Tobin united in marriage at St. Dominic’s with only ushers Will Thompson and John Tobin present. A luncheon followed at the groom’s father Wm. Rudd home. The groom, a prosperous local farmer, and the bride, daughter of John Tobin, are well known in Springfield and surrounding county. They will reside near town.
The First Christian Church property at Fourth and Walnut in Louisville sold yesterday for 850000 to John P. Starks. He plans a handsome store on the site once vacated. The sale marks a record in Louisville real estate with a gain of 190000 over a three year old offer. Dr. El Powell is the pastor.
Lee Handy of Defries in Hart County bought a black fox pelt for $1.60. After cautions, he learned the fur may fetch between $600 and $1,500. Further letters from New York fur dealers indicated the skin’s rarity and a potential value near $1,475.
At Lincoln Farm on February 12 1909 the Dean of Kentucky Postmasters Robt E Wood will present a cane grown on the historic farm to President Roosevelt on behalf of the State League of Kentucky Postmasters. Me H Webb calls a February 11 meeting at Louisville Custom House for Fourth class postmasters to plan attendance at Hodgenville ceremonies. This gala day invites all postmasters to attend and participate.
Clarence LeBus, president of the Burley Tobacco Society, says the pool system benefits Kentucky growers. He notes a hogshead sold to the American Tobacco Company for 460 dollars, up from 100 to 125 dollars before organization, and asserts no other land would yield such a hogshead.
