Washington county farmer robbed by two highwaymen in Louisville
George Robinson, a farmer from Washington County Indiana, was attacked and robbed of four dollars by two highwaymen in Louisville last Tuesday morning. He was coerced to go to the river where they led him before fleeing.

Freight rate cuts approved by Kentucky railroad panel
The Kentucky State Railroad Commission met at the Galt House and approved immediate reductions on coal shipments along the Owensboro and Nashville division of the Louisville and Nashville line. The Teachers' Institute met Tuesday August 14 at the Graded School building with many attendees. Prof M O Winfrey state examiner led instruction and earned praise for his dedication. Henry Wells won a close election for secretary 18 to 17 over Clayton Stallings. Two young men drowned in a whirlpool near Grand Forks North Dakota.

Mrs J W Thompson died at her Pleasant Grove home from a stroke suffered Sunday night. She was 59, born Mackville April 7 1846, married March 6 1866 to Mr Thompson, mother of ten with eight living. Funeral tomorrow at 4 pm at Pleasant Grove cemetery, she was a devout Christian and beloved by her community.

Miss Bessie Auberry twelve, of Botland neighborhood, Nelson County, died last Wednesday evening when a pistol under a pillow discharged. The accident, told by a relative, occurred as children gathered at Mrs Will Faulkner’s home. Funeral at St Rose church.

Ill Health Said To Unbalance Mind in Local Tragedy
Mrs Thomas Lowber aged about seventy five living with her husband near Pulliem in the northern county section died by hanging Friday afternoon in an upstairs room of their home. The husband found her when he returned from the orchard. Ill health for months and long strange behavior are noted as factors though no watch was kept. The couple recently marked their fiftieth anniversary and the deceased leaves a large family of married children in the county. The grieving husband is not expected to live much longer.

George Lewis a colored boy about fourteen was arrested by Sheriff John Burton on a horse stealing charge. He allegedly hitched a Main street horse, drove it to Springfield, then returned it. Trial set for tomorrow with Jaiior Catlett in charge. The boy said a white man instructed him to take the horse to a livery stable for payment.

Death of Miss Mary Stephen at 16
Miss Mary Stephen, adopted daughter of Mr and Mrs J H Bottom, died at 4 AM Sunday after a long illness with consumption. A Methodist member since 1888, she was described as bright and amiable. Funeral services were held, with six girl friends as pallbearers, at Pieters Cemetery. Frank Palmer of Maysville drowned in the Ohio River while bathing four miles above his home.
