Pinawa and surrounding district welcome Allen Sargeant visiting from Australia to Canada for teaching duties. Alvin Tyndall returns home from Pine Falls hospital with a leg cast as healing progresses. Local residents host and visit Winnipeg, Kenora, and Lac du Bonnet, with a bazaar and Cancer Fund dance planned at Pinawa hall. A London fashion show features a bonnet resembling 18th century styles in brown velvet with velvet ribbons and a large side bow.

Ernie Donin runs a well equipped sash and door factory supplying homes, businesses, and public utilities within thirty miles. The shop, long active when doors and windows waned, kept up production despite glass and lumber shortages, shipping many windows and doors by plane to outlying points.

V Lindquist Still Missing In Lac du Bonnet Route

Vannar Lindquist, driver for G and S Transfer on the Winnipeg to Lac du Bonnet run, has been missing since September 13 after leaving a parked trailer at a local garage. The truck was later found overturned on Pointe du Bois highway with no sign of the driver despite the vehicle appearing mostly undamaged.

W Currie Hurt In Truck Collision

Tyndall report says William Currie driving from Beausejour along the Trans Canada highway was struck by a two ton truck while turning into A Winkler’s driveway. Currie’s truck overturned into a ditch. he suffered a three stitch cut and minor bruises.

Garden Club Fair at Lac du Bonnet Seeks Strong Exhibits

The Annual Achievement Day Garden Club Fair takes place at the Community Hall Lac du Bonnet on Saturday Sept 27 at 1 30 pm. S Prodan from the Department of Agriculture hopes many members will exhibit and attend. Despite poor weather many vegetables are ready for entry and organizers aim for a record fair.

Croix de Guerre with Silver Star Awarded to Wing Commander Brown

The government of France honors Wing Commander M. Brown of Lac du Bonnet with the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star. Brown is among five Manitobans recognized. the other four honorees are from Winnipeg.

Whist Drive and Vegetable Sale A Great Community Event

The annual Whist Drive and Sale of vegetables and preserves was held Monday evening in the Community Hall and praised as a success. Auctioneer Joe Sparman drew some joking bids. Honors in Whist went to Mrs. Omer LeVoie and Mrs. Jack Park, with Bert Gillie and Andy Usackis earning consolation. The pumpkin weight guess ended with 40 pounds 2 ounces. Jim Russell won the giant after a card draw with Paul August.

Rev H Choronzy arrived by plane to be at his mother’s bedside at St Boniface hospital as she lies seriously ill. William Topoliwski has left for Port Alberni to secure winter work. Miss Nettie Ficdiens of West sides with local news.

Pine Falls Mourns Death of Ben van Malsen

Pine Falls mourns Bernard Theodore van Malsen known as Ben a prominent local figure whose sudden death Saturday afternoon shocked the community. Born in The Hague on March 11 1901 he lived in Pine Falls since 1928 was active in the Oddfellows Canadian Order of Foresters Voyageurs Club Rovers Athletic Club and Office Workers union. An Oddfellow funeral was held at the United church with burial in Pine Falls cemetery.

Stephen Shumilak ae Shumilak Dies at 77 in Brokenhead District

Stephen Shumilak of Brokenhead died at his residence on September 17 at age 77 in his 78th year. Born in Austria he came to Canada 50 years ago and settled in the Brokenhead district. Funeral was September 21 at Russell's Funeral Chapel Beausejour with burial in the Polish National cemetery Beausejour. Survived by six sons Peter Paul John Fred William in district Henry in the U.S. and two daughters Mary in Winnipeg Annie in B.C.

Walkleyburg Shooting Disaster Involving Couple

A Walkleyburg farmer John Smoley and his wife Dora were wounded by a .22 rifle on September 18. Mrs Smoley was shot from a window, then fled to the post office before calling police. John Smoley sustained a self-inflicted head wound. Authorities plan charges of attempted murder and death by own action. Walkleyburg lies six miles north of Tyndall.
