Finance Minister Douglas Abbott announced a new series of Canada Savings Bonds to go on sale October 14 1947. The bonds mature in ten years at 2 percent interest with redeemable value and instalment options. Sales will be handled by the Bank of Canada and authorized agents including banks and investment dealers.

Walter Shumilak bids farewell to Poland as Maryan, his wife, and children sail to Canada. In 1939 the family settled in Beausejour, where Maryan later joined Polish Marines and was wounded in Europe. He and a Polish WAC refugee bride reunite with their young daughter Christine, creating a hopeful homecoming.
Martin Monetta was guest of honor at a stag party on Thursday September 24. He will forfeit his bachelor status on October 3 to wed Miss Mary Hadaller of Hazelridge. C. H. Bethel presented a torchierre lamp on behalf of the guests, followed by congratulatory remarks.
The Great Falls silver tea last Saturday raised 17.40 with vegetables donated by residents netting 23.99 for sport equipment for the Junior Boys Hockey team. Local residents and visitors returned from Winnipeg holidays and it notes several families visiting relatives in Winnipeg and Vancouver. Weather slowed carload shipments for the National Barley Contest in the west. By September 18 last year 126 cars were inspected in Winnipeg with 84 from Manitoba, 35 from Saskatchewan and seven from Alberta. this year 78 cars were inspected, 48 from Manitoba, 19 from Saskatchewan and 11 from Alberta. Many contestants fail to meet the 1,667 bushel minimum and eliminations may follow as yields and quality lag last year's high standard.
A UK radiologist unveiled a new method using about 10 000 volt X rays to reveal stamp forgeries that fool microscopic and UV checks. Demonstrated to 200 delegates at the Philatelic Congress in Birmingham, the technique exposes paper texture differences and repairs invisible to standard microscopy.
A silver social hosted by senior Sunday School members raised 30 for Chinese Relief. Guests hosted by Inga Oxholm, Marna Frantz, Doreen Lewis, Anna Peterson, Betty Stardom and Daisy King as boys served tea. Several visits and greetings from area families followed in Seven Sisters and Winnipeg.
