V Lindquist Still Missing After Winnipeg Lac du Bonnet Trip

Vannar Lindquist, driver for G and S Transfer, vanished after parking a trailer in a local garage on a Saturday. The truck was later found overturned on the Pointe du Bois highway with no trace of Lindquist, causing anxiety to relatives and friends.

Currie Hurt In Truck Collision Near Tyndall

On a drizzly Friday morning September 19 William Currie driving from Beausejour in the Trans Canada highway area was struck by a two ton truck while turning into A Winkler’s driveway. His three quarter ton truck loaded with apples overturned into the ditch. Currie suffered a three stitch cut and minor bruises.

Wing Commander M. Brown of Lac du Bonnet is awarded the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star by the French government announced by RCAF headquarters. He is among five Manitobans honored, with the other four from Winnipeg.

Whist Drive and Vegetable Sale Held in Community Hall

The annual Whist Drive and vegetable sale concluded Monday evening with Genial Joe Sparman as auctioneer. Prizes awarded in Whist went to Mrs. Omer LeVoie, Mrs. Jack Park, Bert Gillie, and Andy Usackis. Paul August and Jim Russell tied in the weight guess, the pumpkin weighing 40 pounds 2 ounces. Jim won the pumpkin after a card draw.

Noted Pine Falls Citizen Ben van Malsen Dies Suddenly

Pine Falls mourns the sudden death of Bernard Theodore van Malsen known as Ben a leading city figure. Born in The Hague March 11 1901 he moved to Canada 1919 and settled in Pine Falls in 1928. He organized the Voyageurs Club Rovers Athletic Club and helped form the Office Workers union. An Oddfellow funeral was held at United Church with burial in Pine Falls cemetery.

Stephen Shumilak Dies at 77 in Brokenhead District

Stephen Shumilak of Brokenhead died at his residence on September 17 at age 77. Born in Austria he came to Canada 50 years ago and settled in the Brokenhead district. Funeral was held September 21 at Russell's Funeral Chapel Beausejour with burial in Polish National cemetery Beausejour. Surviving are six sons Peter Paul John Fred William in district Henry in the United States two daughters Mary in Winnipeg and Annie in B.C.

Smo ley Man and Wife Wounded in Walkleyburg Shooting

A Walkleyburg farmer John Smoley, 57, and his wife Dora, 50, are treated at Selkirk hospital after a .22 rifle incident on September 18. Mrs Smoley was grazed by a bullet fired from a window. she fled to a post office while Mr Smoley shot himself in the forehead. Police will file charges of attempted murder and death by own action. Walkleyburg lies six miles north of Tyndall.
