Bishop Loftouse visit and local community notes at Pointe du Bois

The Bishop of Keewatin Hight Rev J Lofthouse visited St Marys church at Pointe du Bois on October 19 for Holy Communion and a reception hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary. A Power House Unit of the Federation of Civic Employees elected G D Anderson as President R E Hawkes as Vice President H R Eby as Secretary and E G Bricknell as Treasurer. Local updates include Curling Rink improvements and various residents visiting Winnipeg Windsor and Halifax with travel and work plans for winter months.

Thanksgiving weekend visitors and church service notes

Eleanor and Douglas Shanks were home for Thanksgiving weekend. Paul Ryplanski moved to Winnipeg for a new position. Visitors to M. Pearson’s home included Alvin Heeney Everett Dobbin Maureen Pearson and Margaret Pearson with Walter Kelly and Walter Wolfson of Winnipeg as guests at the Pinawa Staff house. Rev E K Bissell of Lac du Bonnet led a service in the Pinawa hall on Thursday October 17. A service will be held Thursday November 21 at 8 pm. Sunday School will be at Pinawa hall every Sunday at 3 pm. Winnipeg visitors for Thanksgiving weekend included Mr and Mrs A Bradley Lily Nelson Margaret Vickner Mr and Mrs H Kriscofferson. Mr and Mrs H Leith and Margaret visited the homes of Mr and Mrs S Ellis and Mr and Mrs J Howcraft of Seven Sisters Falls. The Junior Red Cross held a Masquerade dance in the Pinawa hall on Saturday October 26. music was good.

Hallowe'en Dance Invites Lac du Bonnet Residents

Bob Guy returned to Lac du Bonnet after summer with the R M P detachment at Winnipeg Beach. The Community Hall dance Thursday promises a lively evening with a costume theme and support for a worthy cause. Rene Lemaire, connected to the CPR gang, visited town and shared local news. Mrs Bruneau's East trip included Niagara Falls and Fort William with relatives.

Ducks At Whiteshell Reserve And Local Happenings

Joe Sparman Wally Carrion and Vic Wickner spent a week traveling the Whiteshell Forest Reserve pursuing ducks with mixed success but bringing home a good number. Bill Scherk joined them at Rennie, Hugh Clancy stayed at the Lakeview Hotel, while local shortages and tireless strikes threaten Canada’s economy and daily life. Public meeting to form Athletic Association at Community Hall

A meeting will be held next Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Community Hall to form an Athletic Association as the rink nears completion. Citizens are urged to attend to show interest and organize oversight. The event aimed to raise money for equipment and was financially successful though parent attendance was disappointing. Farrill LeVasseur and Eddie Zikman won the men's prizes, Donna Peterson and Mrs Swetz won the ladies' prizes. Club members provided lunch and two cakes were auctioned to swell proceeds.
