1945 Potato Crop Falls From 1944 Totals
Ottawa reports Canada's 1945 potato crop at 35,184,000 hundredweight from 507,600 acres, down from 49,409,000 hundredweight on 534,900 acres in 1944. Yield averages 69 cwt per acre versus 92 last year, with declines across provinces especially Quebec. Manitoba output estimated at 1,250,000 hundredweight, down from 1,390,000 in 1944.

Cigarette Smoking Doubled Since 1939 in Canada

Pte Stanley St Croix Returns from Overseas
Pte Stanley St Croix of the Saskatchewan Light Infantry is back with the First Division after nearly three years abroad. He saw action in Italy Belgium and Holland and visited relatives in France during his return. Florence Bouvier and Mrs E J Bouvier assisted at a Handicrafts Exhibition at the Hudsons Bay store demonstrating weaving. Voter turnout was light in the provincial election with 84 ballots cast from 253 names. Stryk led with 69, Doneleyko 9, Bileski 5 and 1 ballot rejected.
