The Winnipeg Grenadiers caused a crowd of 4,000 at the CP R station last Tuesday night when Pte Steve Yormula of Molson, nicknamed Smiler, grinned and joked with reporters. He said he made the crowd laugh in camp and even teased the Japanese soldiers, hoping to get a reaction, while displaying his famed teeth.

Jack Osmers Injured in Car Accident
Winnipeg Electric patrolman Jack Osmers sustained a shoulder injury when the rail car he rode in collided with a car in Great Falls. Accompanying passengers Mr. Shore and Mr. Smith were admitted to Pine Falls hospital but later released. The automobile occupants suffered no injuries and Osmers party returned home hours after hospital treatment.

Libau resident Mrs Katherine Helwer aged sixty died Tuesday in Selkirk General Hospital after 22 years in the Libau district. Survived by husband John Fred Helwer four sons Frederick David Robert and Alex all of Libau and seven grandchildren. Helen Chorney, 21, of Oakbank, was dancing at a wedding reception in the St. Regis Hotel when she slipped on a waxed floor, fracturing her right arm just below the elbow. She was taken to Winnipeg General Hospital at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. her condition was described as fairly good on Thursday.
