A well attended Ning Victory Loan rally held at the Seven Sisters Community Hall on October 18 featured remarks by Phil Ding Mars chairing, E. V. Caton Winnipeg Electric Co. chief engineer praising past loans and urging another strong show. Squadron Leader Lorne Cameron discussed his wartime experiences and escape, while W. J. Ralph of the Manitoba War Finance Committee thanked attendees. Tony Mabou outlined payroll savings, moving pictures showed veteran rehabilitation, and J. Smith directed. Further closing remarks by J. B. Willlick rounded out the program.

Pine Falls bond drive nears first milestone

Leader Correspondent Ben van Malsen reports that during the first three days bond sales in Pine Falls totalled 27000 dollars. Leo Seguin heads the Committee of Canvassers in the 9th Bond Drive and is described as the town’s busiest man. The town slogan proclaims watch us as we go over the top.

A Pine Falls wedding of Florence Irene Legge and Gilbert Donat Beaulieu took place at Holy Trinity church in Winnipeg on October 15 at 3 p.m. Florence is the only daughter of Sgt. and Mrs. M. E. Legge of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. Gilbert is the second son of E. F. Beaulieu of Spirit River Alberta. Rev. officiated.

Long-Time Libau Resident Dies in Selkirk Hospital

Eleie Hoffman aged 82, longtime Libau resident of 46 years and widow of Traugo Hoffman, died last Tuesday at Selkirk General Hospital. Born in Poland, funeral at Church of Peace, Rev. E. Schiewe of Winnipeg officiating. burial in East Libau Cemetery. Survived by five daughters living in Beausejour, Libeau, and Winnipeg.

Pine Falls Sends Ton Of Clothing To Europe

Pine Falls and district collected more than a ton of used clothing in 52 large cartons for the National Used Clothing Drive to aid Allies in Europe. The Manitoba Paper Co. and Cadets organized the effort. donations can still be dropped at Mrs. S Poitras or N. Walton for forwarding. Garments included sweaters coats suits baby clothes leather items windbreakers and more.

Seven Sisters Man Gets Fines Reduced in County Court

Jacob Rempel of Seven Sisters Falls saw a $3,020 cut in fines after an appeal to St. Boniface county court from magistrate T J Murray’s July 26 sentence in provincial police court. Rempel pleaded guilty to 20 counts of buying and selling weed cars and trucks above ceiling prices and filing false returns to the War Time Prices Board.

Fines Reduced and Plea Dispute in Provincial Court

Judge Roy criticized a plea entered in provincial police court where Rempel said he would plead guilty to avoid trial. The judge said a not guilty plea should have been entered and the Crown must prove the case. If fines aren’t paid, jail terms could total about 15 months, with Crown counsel denying jail time.

Woman Victim Of Car Accident Near Lac Du Bonnet

Mrs Lil lian Viellieux of Lac du Bonnet was killed Saturday evening on Pine Falls Highway after a car driven by William Jenkinson of West Kildonan overturned. Jenkinson and his wife had minor injuries. An inquest was opened by local coroner Dr W S Reid and adjourned to November 5. Jury members named. post mortem by Dr Lansdown. Surviving family includes husband S Viellieux four sons Leonard Albert Richard Arthur and one daughter Florence.
