Manitoba's Population Over One Million
Premier Ed Schreyer announced in the Legislature that Manitoba's population surpassed one million for the first time. A preliminary count as of June 1 showed 1,018,535 residents, with 512,009 males and 506,526 females, based on Manitoba Health Services Commission records and analyzed by the Planning and Priorities Committee secretariat. A 282 page breakdown by age, sex and family size covers rural municipalities, districts, cities, towns, villages, and Indian bands. A joint project with the Dominion Bureau of Statistics will compare provincial figures with forthcoming federal census data.
