Regional health talks set for Lac du Bonnet area
Dr. Ted Tulchinsky and Manitoba health officials will meet July 23 at the Legislative Building with Lac du Bonnet and area councils to discuss forming regional health services. The area of about 7,000 permanent residents relies on one public health nurse, no ambulance service, long travel to doctors, and a feasibility study was promised after January consultations.

Ottawa reports that three firms, under the Regional Development Incentives Act, will create about 128 jobs in Manitoba. Unistican Trail Motel Limited of Winnipeg will get roughly $124,000 to help build a Rivers mobile motel facility employing about 85 people, with incentives tied to the project.

Pine Falls Stirling Pipe Band Dominates Highland Games Circuit
The Pine Falls Stirling Pipe Band, fresh from winning the Aggregate for Best All Around at the Kinsmen International Band Festival in May, continued strong at the Highland Games. Death of Lac du Bonnet artist Charles Hodgkins in 1971
Local Artist C F Hodgkins died at his Lac du Bonnet home on July 10 1971. Born April 24 1910 in London England he grew up in Russell Manitoba and became a noted landscape painter and amateur radio operator VE4MJ. He moved to Lac du Bonnet in 1943 and worked as a radio operator for the Manitoba Government Air Service. Hodgkins also practiced music and studied wildflowers for Manitoba’s centennial project painting crocuses and wild orchids. He urged preservation of native flora and left a legacy of Prairie scenes and Western Canada landscapes.
