Lac du Bonnet Puck News Highlights and Local Visits

Lac du Bonnet hockey fans saw a 3-2 league win with Arvid Dancut scoring all three goals. The event featured the new scoring prize presented by H Springman. Also noted: local residents visiting relatives in Ontario Alberta and Illinois. Several residents recovered from injuries and enjoyed holidays with family in Winnipeg Great Falls and Vancouver.

The quebracho tree, a South American species prized for its leather tanning extract, is noted for its extremely rugged wood and the origin of its name meaning axe-breaker in local languages.

Women's Institute Plans Aid for Beausejour Club

Beausejour January meeting of the Women’s Institute led by Mrs. Stepaniuk approved a profit from the New Year’s Dance and earmarked 15 dollars for War Memorial. They will sponsor a Whist Drive January 30 to aid the Beausejour Badminton Club and sponsor a European family parcel program. Miss Margaret Nix spoke on social problems and praised local charity efforts.

Seven Sisters community notes and local visits update

The Seven Sisters Girl Guides thank donors after caroling around the town, raising 19 50 for the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg. Local updates include Eleanor Ellis leaving for McGregor to teach, Marion Williams visiting family, and a Lac du Bonnet vs Seven Sisters hockey loss 3 to 1. Also listed are visitors in town, illness notes, and numerous family visits around Seven Sisters and Beausejour.

The High School Bonspiel in Winnipeg saw E Laurilla A Knox C Storseth and E Neimi post two wins amid a banquet featuring Winnipeg curling wizards G Hudson A Welsh K Watson and others. Community Club Whist Drive on January 6, large New Year celebration and film night followed.

Pine Falls News Roundup and Hockey Win

Stan Brewster Sr was admitted to Pine Falls Hospital sharing a ward with Roy Perry. Pine Falls Intermediate hockey team beat Seven Sisters 4 3 on January 8 in Pine Falls despite heavy snow. Weekend visitors included Mr and Mrs Cowan Kennedy Sask Mr and Mrs Don Jaques and guests Janet MacLeod Jean Holmstrom from Quibell Ontario visiting Pine Falls. Janet will assist in the General Office for two weeks. A Film Council is forming with representatives from community organizations to promote educational use.

School Joys Continues With New Year Party

New Year night featured a party at the Niemi home with many guests and musicians H. Bjork and D. Mac Millan aiding the dance. Refreshments by Mrs. Niemi followed as square dancing brought festive fun to the gathering. The next Saturday Donald Boyd hosted another lively event with music by the same duo and refreshments by his mother.
