Crop failure year declared in western Canada

A crop failure year is proclaimed across the prairie provinces. Saskatchewan and Alberta will have about 700 and 350 townships respectively under the crop failure clause of the Prairie Farm Assistance Act, with roughly 1,300 townships under the emergency clause across the three provinces. About 48,000 farmers may receive payments totaling around 13 million dollars, and cheques are being mailed. The 1945 drought drove Saskatchewan to seek aid from the PFAA, with poor harvests in over 1,800 townships, affecting more than half the province.
