Elk Horns Break World Record In Banff District

A group of hunters near Banff Alta reportedly shot an elk with a horn spread of 54 inches and a height of 64 inches. The base measures 13 and a half inches. The party also bagged a moose with a horn spread of 51 inches. In Saskatoon a taxicab sustained about 350 in damage after colliding with a cow on a street. The animal appeared suddenly and could not be avoided. In Winnipeg J W Welsh former grain dealers leader says surplus grain may soon become industrial alcohol and plastics feedstock rather than animal feed. In Alliston Ontario every veteran receives a Christmas turkey. William Cunningham, 72, bought 80 birds and delivered them personally.

Jersey calves donated to Quebec Dairy School for free use

Ten pure bred Jersey bull calves were donated to the Quebec Provincial Dairy School in St Hyacinthe by Sqdn Ldr D J Clelland Vine land Ont. The bulls will be loaned to farmers for breeding purposes at no charge. Pennsylvania not involved.

Christmas concert and holiday gatherings in Winnipeg

The annual Christmas concert on December 21 earned praise for Misses Anne Lebit and Martha Labay who organized a fine program. Several local youths returned for holidays such as Helen Kurian and others. small gatherings and a 50th birthday party at Jo Rafalant’s home were noted. Private Tony Boretski left Elma on December 28 to return to duty at Shilo, with his wife accompanying him to Winnipeg.

Death of C C Irvine Shocks Pine Falls Community

Charles C Irvine general manager of Manitoba Paper Co dies at Winnipeg General Hospital at age 63 after a heart attack returning from Toronto. Funeral held in Pine Falls United Church with service at 1 pm December 26, burial in Pine Falls cemetery. Survived by widow and five children James John Bill Mary and Catherine.

Mrs. J. Bietting Passes Away After Long Illness

Mrs. Anna Bietting wife of the late John Bietting died at Pine Falls Hospital on Saturday December 15 after a lengthy illness. Born February 23 1872 in Latvia she moved from St Johnsville New York to Lettonia Canada in 1914. Predeceased by husband February 1935 she is survived by son J C Bietting. Falls Christmas Guests and Local News in Great Falls

Veterans Welcome Home Banquet Huge Success

The Lac du Bonnet Overseas Cigarette Fund chaired by F. H. Waters hosted a Welcome Home banquet for World War II veterans at the Choma Building on December 19. Eileen Small was celebrated for mailing 1,600 letters to troops. Rev S Richardson and John Horbatiuk led tributes, with Legion support and dancing to Ivor Peterson and Fred Duffly orchestras.
