Rev. Dr. W. W. McNairn aged 74 longtime padre of the Ottawa Cameron Highlanders and other Canadian units in the first World War died recently in hospital. His passing follows a day marked by a cold walk through icy streets toward the Ontario Parliament Buildings where a sprinkler head caused a false alarm.
In Alberta a 45 year old farmer Owen Swiney of Peers district and father of five children was found frozen to death on Christmas Eve after a five day disappearance amid a harsh cold spell. Norbert T. Aubin unveils the Gadabout a streamlined electrically powered wheelchair at Shaughnessy Hospital Vancouver. Pte Edward J Morrisseau of the Winnipeg Grenadiers died at St Vital Sanitorium on December 27 after returning to Canada from a Japanese prison camp. Nine khaki veterans of service overseas aboard the troopship Scythia returned Saturday docking at Halifax. Nearly 400 soldiers from Artillery Signals Armoured Corps Engineers and other Canadian units will disperse to Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario with disembarkation leaves to be spent with listed spouses and families in Pine Falls Whitemouth St George Lac du Bonnet Great Falls Elma and Pine Falls.
Two baptism notices record Mary daughter of John Marek and F Grabowski born October 16 1945 christened December 16 1945 with godfather Alexander Grabowski and godmother Rose Solarchuk. Also Mary Elaine Margaret daughter of Edward Johnston and Ann Hansen of Great Falls Manitoba born October 5 1945 christened December 20 1945 with godfather Robert Hansen and godmother Agnes Hansen.
On Thursday January 3 a farm education trip funded by Canada Packers Winnipeg gathered twenty members from Oakbank and Hazelridge led by Dan Albrecht Fred Habing and Gerald Habing.
