All Stars defeat Legion in Pine Falls softball clash

The All Stars beat the imperiled Legion 14 to 8 on Sunday August ML as Legion pitcher absence hampered their defense. Cecil Cook started, Frances Kolesnick finished, with Stan Baldwin on the mound for the All Stars. George Sharpe hit a risky safe home run in the opening inning.

Pine Falls sees guests from Winnipeg Lac du Bonnet and Halifax settle in for visits and a new Canadian home. Wing Commander Frayne departs for Ottawa and St Boniface nurse trainee Reta Fournier departs for studies, while locals Ross Halpin recovers, spurs golf and pool activity, and old friends reconnect before summer holidays end.

Labor Day Sports Planned By Trades and Labor Committee

The Youth Training Centre invited to an open air meeting on August 13 to organize Labor Day Sports. William Hibbert chairs the Trades and Labor Committee which aims to host a day of sports for residents with two local and two visiting softball teams competing for $35 in prizes amid expectations of a large crowd.

Northern W V S Sends 5000 For Troops in Japan Wing

Members of Britain's Voluntary Services have sent 5000 from profits of canteens in Durham Northumberland and North Riding of Yorkshire to support a club for British troops in Japan. The funds will furnish and arrange the British troops wing of the British Indian Division holiday home. The wing will be named The Northern Counties Club.
