Decoration Day services at Pine Falls honor fallen veterans
World War I and II veterans and local Legion members gathered at Pine Falls on Decoration Day Sunday August 11 at 2 30 p m. Bandmaster Laurence Frayne led the Legion band in O God Our Help In Ages Past as wreaths were laid by Mrs G Horvath and Mrs E Tanner. Rev John Hunter offered prayers and Canon Walter spoke on remembrance. The procession moved to the cemetery for grave decorations. The Last Post and Reveille were noted, with benediction by Rev Father De Ruyck before dismissal at the flag staff.

City Youth Thinks Fast After Pine Falls Accident
A Pine Falls incident on August 14 near Stan Brewster Jr. left him pinned under a car when a jack slipped. Eight year old Billy Bird Jr. alerted helpers, who with Alex Thompson, William Bird Sr., and Norman Bird freed him. Brewster recovered with only shock and minor injuries.

Ottawa notes Canada will secure a better price for hogs than Denmark under Britain deals. Agriculture Minister Gardiner told the Commons that a hundredweight difference explains past impressions. He said Denmark gains $1.09 per 100 pounds now to Sept 1947 and 19 cents more for 1947, but 91 cents less than Canada’s 1948 guaranteed price of 22.50 per 100.
