Ottawa urged to act on trade restraints across provinces
Attorney-General Al Mackling and Agriculture Minister Sam Askiw pressed federal counterparts to end interprovincial trade barriers. Mackling asked Justice Minister John Turner to seek a Supreme Court ruling by June, warning that continued restrictions threaten Canada’s unity. Askiw urged Ottawa to buy Manitoba eggs at weighted average prices to eliminate all restrictions, noting Manitoba losses and 10 fragmented markets.
