Mercury in Food and the Hidden Poison in Fish

The piece traces mercury poisoning linked to fish from Minamata Bay Japan between 1953 and 1960, where a plastics plant allegedly discharged methyl mercury. It covers maritime contamination findings, Swedish studies, microbial conversion of inorganic to methyl mercury, international meetings, and delayed U.S. response culminating in a 1969 FDA safe limit of 0.5 ppm. It cites SATURDAY REVIEW as the source and credits Machinist magazine for story-compliment.
