Social Security cuts eyed by Reagan plan worries Carbondale
Bonnie Marx reports from The Southern Illinoisan on proposed Social Security changes. Bob Drone, manager of the Carbondale office, says the public is anxious though proposals are not law yet. Key points include a 62 age pension drop to 55 percent, ending 62 year credits, disability rule tightening, retirement test phase out by 1986, and elimination of student benefits and the $255 death lump sum. The July 3 11.2 percent benefit rise may move to October next year to align with fiscal year.
