Murphysboro intersection to gain safety facelift
Congestion and safety concerns drive a major facelift at the Illinois 13 Williams Street intersection east of Murphysboro. New turn lanes are nearly finished this week and traffic signals are planned by month’s end if weather allows. Nearby landmarks include Wright Do It Center AmerenCIPS two gas stations and a youth boot camp to the north.

The Cairo School District will hire Educational Management Consultants of Marion to serve as financial administrator per the Financial Oversight Panel. Parker Neptune born 1942 near West Frankfort became King Neptune a Hereford pig aiding World War II bond sales. Don Lingle and buyers auctioned him repeatedly from 1942, with pieces or even hair sold to raise funds. King Neptune toured in a red white blue truck, wore a royal blanket and crown, and gained honorary memberships in clubs along the way.
