Carbondale’s historic Varsity Theatre, opened in 1940, will shut next Wednesday as Kerasotes Theatres closes the venue and opens ShowPlace 8 at University Mall the following day. The National Weather Service in Paducah continues damage surveys from Tuesday night’s multi county tornado outbreak in Massac Pulaski Alexander and Pope counties as another severe storm moves through the area. The largest tornado traced a 30 mile path from Grand Chain to Golconda with a width up to half a mile while a national team assists with ground and air surveys. Many counties issued watches as activity persists across the four states.
