Court says state must not intervene in church internal disputes
The Supreme Court in a 7 to 2 ruling overturned an Illinois decision in a 13 year fight between Serbian Eastern Orthodox factions in the United States and Canada. Justice Brennan said state courts erred by intruding into hierarchical church governance and internal discipline.
