Southeast project proposed urban renewal near SIU in Carbondale
The Carbondale Plan Commission endorsed a renewal plan for land near Southern Illinois University. It envisions tearing down or upgrading housing in southwest Carbondale and adding university oriented residences. Project boundaries run along University Avenue to the east, Mill and Grand to the south, Forest and Elizabeth to the west, and Freeman Street and an extension to the north. Substandard buildings will be razed and the area appraised by renewal officials.
