Major measures rejected as committees step toward July floor
Illinois House committees sent most major bills to defeat during day hearings. A personal property tax license plate bill passed 17 to 2, while income tax and city sales tax increases were rejected. The gun law repeal was shelved, and a voting-age reduction measure advanced. An interstate program expansion move would extend funding and miles.

The delay followed a conflict with a Republican Platform Committee meeting led by Everett Dirksen, a top Judiciary member.
