Senate kills tax relief and approves school measure
Illinois Senate voted 28-26 to defeat a plan for voter approval or higher taxes for unit school districts and rejected tax indexing that would raise the $1,000 personal exemption with inflation. The same session saw a 26-25 vote against lifting the exemption with inflation, amid claims the state cannot afford the loss of up to $40 million in next year’s revenue.
