Sparta Board OKs 600000 Working Cash Bond Sale
The Sparta school district approved selling 600000 in working cash bonds to cover payroll and expenses while not raising taxes. The plan uses interest from existing funds and may abate the levy annually or at once. The move aims to balance the amended FY2004 budget with a projected deficit turning into a surplus.

Lane addition eyed to ease Carbondale traffic
Carbondale will seek bids Tuesday to add a lane on East Grand Avenue near Wall Street. City Manager Jeff Doherty says the project aims to ease heavy traffic between SIUC and the east side, with signals, sewers and sidewalks upgraded. A $528,647 motor fuel tax appropriation includes $10,000 for Sinnott property right of way. The Sinnott parcel once housed a gas station and will see two entrances closed and water service meters installed.
