Commander exits key eastern Congolese town Bukavu

Renegade commander Laurent Nkunda withdrew his remaining troops from Bukavu on Sunday, four days after seizing the eastern Congo city. Yet violence persisted as a UN convoy was ambushed in North Kivu, killing two South African peacekeepers and wounding nine others. The fall of Bukavu deepens tensions with Rwanda, which closed the border amid accusations of Kigali backing the uprising. Col Jules Mutebutsi said he would stay, with fighters redeployed to camps as a political resolution pursues.
