Carbondale Adolescent Health Center at 306 West Main Street in Memorial Professional Building provides care for ages 12 to 20 on sliding scale including counseling and medical services pregnancy testing and venereal disease treatment hours 1 to 9 Monday and Thursday and 8 30 AM to 5 PM Tuesday Wednesday and Friday phone 529 2621.

Clarida Wins Four Year Harvard Economics Scholarship
Richard Clarida of Herrin is awarded a four year graduate fee scholarship totaling about 30000 to study at the Harvard School of Economics. He earned a BS in economics from the University of Illinois Champaign with honors including Bronze Tablet and magna cum laude. He is the son of William and Edith Clarida of Herrin and worked in Washington DC with the Department of Conservation on energy issues.

Barbi Altekruse Crowned Carbondale Prom Queen 1979
Barbi Altekruse, 16 and a junior at Carbondale Community High School, was elected prom queen for 1979. Daughter of Mike and Ruth Altekruse of 92 Taylor Drive, Carbondale, she named attendants Sue Stearns Margaret Kelley Rene Beadie and Kendra Gurley. Reel to Reel provided music for the May 26 dance in SIU Carbon dales Student Center ballrooms, followed by an after prom party from midnight to 4 am in the Center with disco, refreshments and use of facilities. The event was sponsored by parents the junior class and local business community.

Harrisburg sixth grader Lisa Weatherington won the SIITA schedule cover design contest from about 500 entries. Her design for the 1979 80 In School Schedule was presented with an etched plaque. the event occurred at SNTA’s 19th annual meeting May 10 in Mount Vernon. Weatherington is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Larry Weatherington. Keith Mielke described the new Sesame Street related series Contact during his SIITA talk. SIITA, based at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, broadcasts over 35 educational programs to Illinois southern 44 counties via WSIU Carbondale and WUSI Olney.

Spurlock, son of Kenneth and Shirley, plans forestry or engineering at Southern Illinois University with a 4.848 GPA. Emme Wins Inaugural Lambert Steffens CPA Scholarship
Jeff Emme a Southern Illinois University Carbondale student received the first Lambert Steffens Memorial Scholarship from the Southern Chapter of the Illinois CPA Society. The award was presented May 25 by Ennis Steffens widow of Lambert Steffens, who led the chapter as president when he died in December 1978 and originated the scholarship idea for local students.

Cadet Matt Bartleson of Carbondale was honored at the 90th commencement at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico Missouri.
