Springfield School Tax Bill Aims to Curb Freeloading
Springfield officials report the Illinois House backed measures to raise elementary district taxes with limited or no referendums to curb freeloading. The plan would affect about 265 districts and allow up to 15 cent increases, with backdoor referendums for certain unit and dual districts. A companion bill would speed highway land purchases by state use of immediate possession with court appraisers and potential jury trials.
