Williams County helps renew personal property tax disputes as Illinois tax law faces seven failed amendments since 1916. The Revenue Article treats property types the same, but assessors apply mixed methods, with real estate assessed every four years and personal property yearly, causing avoidance and uneven collection nationwide.
Gene Wandell installed a bluff shotgun in his mid town building after thieves struck six times and took 1650 dollars of tools and materials. A shot rigged to a window failed twice and the thieves returned Monday morning stealing 50 dollars of loot and the gun. A note read Ha ha you missed.

Washington June 4 AP The United States agreed to turn over Army specialist 3C William C Girard 21 of Omaha LaSalle Ill to Japan for trial after a Japanese woman was killed by a shell fragment on a firing range. The decision sparked outcry in Congress and raised questions over status of forces treaties.
Southern Illinois University geneticist Carl Lindegren joined 2,000 American scientists in a plea to halt nuclear bomb tests. The appeal, led by Nobel laureate Linus Pauling, warned the British H bomb tests could cause about 1,000 deaths, a figure Lindegren said was probably correct.
In a CBS interview broadcast in Moscow, Khrushchev confirms the Soviet Union exploded five nuclear bombs in April. The question from CBS correspondent Daniel Schorr prompted Khrushchev to say the disclosure would have served no useful purpose.
