Capitol displays on Capitol campus coexist peacefully
In Olympia Washington holiday displays on the Capitol campus now co exist with a Nativity scene and a sign stating there are no gods. State officials aim to balance First Amendment religion and free speech rights after a 2008 moratorium on inside Capitol displays. A spokesman calls the current system better than the past circus and notes religious conduct remains limited to outside venues. Freedom From Religion Foundation criticizes state property use for Christian devotion while a Menorah at Sylvester Park is permitted as protected expression.
