New troubles in the telecom sector push stocks lower as Wall Street overlooks healthy consumer spending and frets over a weak recovery. Soybeans and grains ended lower on the Chicago Board of Trade while corn rose early on wet planting delays but finished lower. USDA weekly export inspections disappointed, pressuring prices. wheat opened higher then closed slightly down as corn slid. May delivery figures show soybeans at $4.61, corn at $1.92, oats at $1.63, and wheat at $2.56 per bushel.
Eastern Cornbelt carcass prices were unavailable today alongside negotiated purchases. Illinois Direct Hogs Laws show steady to mostly 1.00 lower with light to moderate demand for light to moderate offerings. Prices cover 300-400 lb at 19.00-20.00, 400-500 lb at 20.00-22.00, 500-600 lb at 22.00-24.00, few 25.00 and over 600 lb 23.00-25.00 with some at 26.00. boars under 300 lb 14.00-18.00, few 20.00, over 300 lb 10.00-15.00.
Stock indices show Dow Jones at 9936.88 with a close of 9819.87 down 90.85, while Standard & Poor’s 500 slips to 1065.45 and Nasdaq falls to 1656.93. NYSE volumes include 1.26 billion at 4 p.m. and 65.31 million after hours, totaling about 1.611 billion for the session.
