Debra Ming Ming unlocked Cypress elementary using a broken window, guiding 10 to 12 people to safety before the building was struck. The F3 tornado tracked 110 miles, killing a 12-year-old in Marble Hill and damaging areas across Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, and Hopkins counties.
Jerrett Merideth of Cypress woke to a rattling sound and watched his roof vanish. He was found uninjured on a neighbor's lawn about 100 feet from his bed after a tornado swept through Cypress at 1:30 a.m. The storm hopped across Union Johnson Pope counties into Hopkins County Kentucky, injuring few and leaving widespread alarm.
