The state plans to allocate 20 percent gasoline for motorists while preserving supplies for essential industries. Myrtle Point reports continued shortages and possible 70 cent per gallon caseloads. A Fortland conference set rationing rules for industrial use and limited pleasure vehicle consumption to 20 percent of tank capacity.
Zany horses are in training for a mid summer race meeting to be held on Friday and Saturday the 18th and 19th at the fair grounds. Eleven horses are entered with more expectant. owners from Grants Pass and Medford signal entries. Jockeys arrived to prepare stock as Marshfield plans Fourth of July events, boosting regional appeal.
E R Jackson J A Wilson and R F Johnson head work on the Bird tract lumber operation near Norway. Logs sold to Sitka Spruce Co of Coquille with deliveries planned soon. A modern yarder and new Portland truck will speed log delivery into the water in two shifts. Unloading dump near Norway store will ease access as four million feet are expected to be logged this summer or as long as needed to reach the mill.
Miss Alice Dement of Myrtle Point was elected to Stanford University women’s debating society The Wranglers and entered with the highest standing of credits of any pupil her age The Ward and local residents celebrate her achievement and pride in her accomplishments
At the Tourist Inn banquet Tuesday evening, Dean Alden of Willamette University led talks on raising funds to match an endowment for the Salem institution. Local patrons including Mr. and Mrs. Chaney, Mr. Jennings, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Taylor Demont, Mrs. Campbell, and students Miss Gladys Carter and Miss Vivian Annin spoke, praising the cause and the university’s personal student–faculty bonds. Mine Host Muller provided notable hospitality.
We sincerely thank friends and neighbors who helped extinguish the blaze that threatened our ranch house last Saturday. We also thank those who offered help though it was not needed. Dr and Mrs W L Pemberton. Py Pe Wilt Graham of Grahams garage at Goguille was a business visitor in the city.

Jennings, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Harriet, W. T. Dement, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Smith and the guest of honor Dean Alden.
At Monday night’s city council session a new water use ordinance was approved. It implements a retirement bond fund charge and pumping costs for the dry season. Minimum monthly bill set at 150 dollars with 25 cent increments for baths, toilets, and irrigation. stock head charge plus 2.5 dollars for irrigation. special rates for garages hotels livery barns creameries factories and boilers. 15 cents per 1000 cubic feet for metered use.
A Saturday fire damaged the roof of the Dr. Pemberton ranch house on the South Fork. William Nye and family, with Rogers ensilage crew, prevented spread to a nearby dairy barn. Dr. J L Masson rushed to help but arrived after control was achieved. Dr. Pemberton will rebuild the overheated flue. An airplane visit last week left a strong impression.
The Oregon Dairymen's Cooperative League plans to take over dairies with a $217000 investment in factories and equipment. A five member zone committee will oversee depots, factory managers, standardization and sale of products in Coos and Curry counties. Over 75 percent of district dairymen have signed contracts signaling strong backing for the pooling plan. A primary election will authorize a temporary zone committee to manage the transition and eventual takeover of multiple creameries and cheese factories.
