New Three Cent Dorchester Chaplains Stamp Issued May 28
The post office plans a May 28 release for a three cent commemorativestamp honoring the four chaplains who perished on the USS Dorchester. It will first go on sale in Chicago the next day and be available nationwide on June 1 at the Philatelic Agency in Washington.

Fire in IC Car Ties Up Traffic For An Hour
A roof fire in an Illinois Central suburban train caused by a wiring short circuit halted both north and southbound IC trains for over an hour during the Monday evening rush. The blaze was confined to one car and extinguished by the fire department in 25 minutes.

Landlady Finds Body of Roomer in Basement Flat
Glen Richard Conley age 23 was found dead in a basement room he rented at 7712 Euclid Avenue on Saturday by his landlady Mrs Judith Johnson. Police report a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. Conley was discharged from the Navy in 1946 after war service in the Pacific and worked as a clerk for the Pure Oil company.

Plane crash near Anchorage yields rapid rescue in Alaska
Lt. Ralph VanKerhove 22 was injured but alive after a fighter plane stalled and exploded on ice flats twenty miles from Anchorage. A helicopter heard the crash by radio and rescued him within 30 minutes despite machine gun fire. He escaped the cockpit with cut hands, was treated at Fort Anchorage hospital, and later revealed he shot down six planes overseas and lives at Elmendorf Field with wife Viola.

Funeral Rites Held For Dora Shugan 50 Killed In Traffic
Dora Shugan a 50 year old pharmacy clerk was fatally struck by an auto at 47th street and Cottage Grove avenue Saturday afternoon. A coroner s jury ruled accidental death. Services were held Tuesday at 6935 Stony Island avenue with burial in South Chicago Cemetery. She is survived by her mother two sisters and five brothers.

Three Cars Crash at 76th and Cottage Grove
