Illinois Central track project faces continued hearings
The Illinois Commerce Commission extended hearings in the Illinois Central track case until September 14. Trapped Street Elevator Worker Dies After Break
Howard H. Jacka 34 of 6451 Blackstone avenue and a stock man at Kresge's 1030 E 63rd street was fatally injured last Thursday when a sidewalk elevator cable broke and the platform collapsed while he worked beneath it. Firemen freed him after 10 minutes and he died five hours later at Woodlawn hospital. A coroner's jury ruled accidental death at an inquest Friday. Survived by widow Joyce and a son Howard. Funeral services were held Monday at St Cyril church and burial was at Calvary cemetery.

Captain Brietzke’s Wife Injured in Department Store Fall
Mrs. Phillip Brietzke, wife of the police chief, suffered back and leg injuries Tuesday afternoon after a fall on the first floor of a Loop department store. She received aid at the store clinic and was taken to St Bernard hospital.

John T. Turner a 63 year old manager in the smoked meats division of Wilson and company was found dead with a bullet wound in his left temple at his home a 7148 Jeffery avenue by his wife Jeanne. A 32 caliber revolver lay nearby and police said he had suffered a prior stroke. A coroner's inquest is set for 9:30 this morning at the chapel on 7659 Jeffery avenue.
