Police investigate the death of Thomas Ratcliff 53 a postal worker who was killed by an Illinois Central train near the 75th street and Woodlawn avenue station. Motorman George Holka 55 said Ratcliff lay on the tracks with his head on a rail and could not be stopped. An inquest is set for today at 9 40 AM in the chapel at 1400 East 72nd Street.

Nine days into a wage dispute, 1600 sewer workers halted work on the South side interceptor by S A Healy company with orderly picketing near 30th St and Princeton Ave and other sites. Dearborn subway construction in the Loop also stopped. Gunnel Jager a public school teacher for 45 years and assistant principal of Gallistel Elementary will be honored at a testimonial dinner at 7 pm Tuesday in the South Chicago Masonic temple 9101 Exchange Ave. Miss Jager who lives at 9822 Avenue H reached automatic retirement age of 85 last Monday. She began as a cadet at Gallister school later transferring to Henry Clay then returned to Gallister in 1904. Vernon Williams chairs the dinner committee and Vietor Fedosky will act as master of ceremonies.

Fall Injuries Fatal to Retired Painter at 70
Harry Joseph Kline 70, a retired painter, died Saturday at Roseland Hospital from a skull fracture suffered in a fall June 6 at his home 7407 Eberhart Ave. A Peoria native, he lived on the southeast side over 50 years. Coal Hiker Admits He Drove Car in Fatal Hit and Run
Woodlawn police, tracing a 1948 plate fragment and a LaSalle car, arrested 23 year old John Decker at 4625 Drexel Avenue after he admitted he was the driver in a hit and run that killed 62 year old Gerhart Gjertson on 63rd street near Ellis Avenue. Decker appeared in Felony court charged with manslaughter and reckless driving. case continued to July 15.
