Illinoisans drank 14,388,942 gallons of beer in April and paid $575,557.68 in beer tax. Whiskeys and spirits reached 1,053,936 gallons with tax receipts at $1,053,935.92. The month showed strong alcohol sales despite the dry forecast.
Friends report Henry Miller enjoying a cheerful week after he carded his first hole in one on May 30 at Pipe O Peace. Carl Bremer assisted Miller by scouting the course and retrieving the ball, which vanished from view before they found it in the hole.

Suburban migration fuels demand as rural to urban shifts continue and mechanization boosts output per worker.
Lorimer Baptist church hosts a Friday night youth concert featuring the Lorimer Rhythm band with about 50 children aged six to twelve. Mrs Weltha Krueger directs. assistants include Mrs C W Klint. The program closes the season formed in January and will resume practices in September with vocal and instrumental groups and a chorus.

Cub Scout pack 3759 donated six beds to the South Side Training Center for Cerebral Palsy in Tuley Park. Den Mother Mrs. Arthur I. Mark presented them to Arthur Hunter and Mrs. Bernadine Moan at a Grand Crossing field house meeting. Funds from the pack’s Christmas card sale supported the gift. 21 new scouts were inducted by Cub Master George W. Elliott and committee chair A. J. Matenky.
Mrs. Daniel Lacy of 10104 S Eberhart Ave will be installed as president of the Garden Club of the South Shore at the annual Spring Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Friday June 17 in the South Side Swedish Club. Other officers include O H Schwebke first vice president T W Shelley second vice president Elmer G Groves recording secretary Frank Dunn corresponding secretary and Herman Roy treasurer.
The Illinois House approved three bills to use one fourth of Burnham park and shoreline for an expo hall, 104 to 36, after party leaders warned opponents of political consequences. Critics argued the lake-front site worsens traffic, harms a recreational area, and ignores alternatives before Senate deliberations.
