CHA Abandons Kennellys Move or Fire Order

CHA Fails Tenants in Firetrap Tenement on E 21st Street
Public officials labeled a seven story tenement at 215 217 E 21st St a firetrap and tax delinquent after inspections. An Econom ist reporter found 12 residents, three of whom had sought CHA low rent housing but were denied due to family size. The widow with eight children pays 27.50 monthly amid indoor play spaces and recurring bronchitis from the roofless building. She receives about 18 monthly in state dependent aid and hopes for CHA admission to permanent housing.
