Nevada crops warm and favorable early May weather

The Nevada weather bulletin reports a week ending May 20 with a warm start and cool, windy finish including light frosts. Elko county showers aided alfalfa and crops. potato and garden growth continues. some damage to gar den and alfalfa in northern and western districts. Overall outlook remains excellent with good range feed and fat cattle. rivers Carson and Walker threaten farms.

Shamrock T Beats Shamrock II in Close Trial

In a tight trial race yesterday Shamrock T narrowly defeated Shamrock II by about half a minute. The event follows a series of labor protests as 50 000 striking machinists are reported nationwide. About 7 000 strikers are in San Francisco with both sides remaining firm.

In Tem-Piute Lincoln county twelve patented claims are bonded by F T McGurrin and Patrick Ryan of Salt Lake. A carload of ore from the Hard Cash mine to East Helena smelter averages 54 per ton. third car this year. Old Hannah mine near Anaconda Montana sold to Minneapolis capitalists for 50000 with staged payments. New owners plan a cyanide plant and large scale operations. Union Iron Works machinery arrives for electric hoist at C C shaft, with Belcher and Union Consolidated shafts next to receive power. South Bisbee Copper Mining and Townsite Improvement Co bonds its properties near Bisbee to a Glasgow syndicate for 2225000, due September 1. Bisbee group covers 661 acres with much development and ore shipments to El Paso. Evidence of a South African mining boom is cited as Johannesburg reorganizes and mine activity increases.

Mrs McKinley Improves After Illness in San Francisco

A San Francisco dispatch reports Mrs. McKinley is resting easily and growing stronger at the Scott mansion. President McKinley reviewed San Francisco school children on Van Ness avenue as thousands cheered, many showering bouquets. Secretary Cortelyou later stated she had a comfortable night and is rapidly regaining strength.
