In Washington on May 9 the president notified Congress of Commodore Dewey's victory and nominated him rear admiral. A concurrent Senate and House resolution approved a vote of thanks, with a sword presented to Dewey and badges for officers and men, plus a $10,000 appropriation.
May 9 report says Queen met Liberal leader Gamaza as political circles brace for orders to Governor General Agusta to resist to the death attacks on Manila. Rioting reported at Cabiso and Alicante.
The Oregon arrived at Bahai Brazil this morning while the auxiliary cruiser St. Paul under Captain Sigsbee put to sea this morning.
