The piece argues that weak children require nourishing food and blood-building, nerve-strengthening tonics rather than stimulants. It condemns tonics and bitters as ineffective and calls for proper nourishment to build muscle and vitality.
An advertisement extols Scott's Emulsion of cod liver oil with hypophosphites of lime and soda as a superior tonic for thin and delicate children. It claims the product promotes growth, strength, plumpness, and comfort and urges buyers to purchase the SCOTT'S Emulsion in bottles of $1.00 from all druggists, SCOTT & BOWNE chemists, New York.
The itching and smarting of eczema and other skin conditions are quickly eased by Chamberlain's Eye and Skin Ointment. Many bad cases have been permanently cured. Also advertised for itching piles sore nipples chapped hands chilblains frost bites and chronic sore eyes sold by druggists at 25 cents per box. Dr Cady's Condition Powders advertised as a tonic blood purifier and vermifuge for horses.
The Arkansas Democrat notes a borrowed Winchester rifle used to threaten and collect money from passersby. J. W. Millar pays $150 for a year’s subscription, a farmer pays $10 after sighting the gun, and a hay load, corn, and turnips arrive as delinquents’ payments. The piece mocks weaponized fundraising and advertises goods from E. Reinart & Co.
State of Nevada files land selections under the 1880 act at Carson City Nevada list No. 195 seeks patent. Public inspection is allowed sixty days to file objections claiming mineral value over agricultural use for specified subdivisions including Lots 4 5 NW1d SE14 SW14 NE14 and other portions in section 4 township range. Objections go to the U S land office in Washington DC.
State land office in Carson City Nevada lists land selections under act of Congress and invites protests within sixty days. Subdivisions include parts of sections 6 14 20 28 41 across Eldorado and adjoining townships. A. C. Pratt, State Land Register, notes first insertion December 24 1897.
Dissolution of the copartnership formerly existing under the firm name Sixon & O'Neal by mutual consent. Joseph Neal and W. A. Nixon announce that the business will continue in Justin's name, with payment of firm debts but no liability for personal debts contracted by A Nixon. Golconda Nevada, December 30, 1897.
