A massive blast at the Du Pont Powder Mills in Fontanet Indiana near Terre Haute caused widespread destruction. Eighteen dead identified, six workers missing, twenty seriously injured, and many others harmed as explosions rocked the town and distant structures.
Samuel Caulifman, living four miles south of Claypool, has threshing for fifty one years and at seventy two remains active in the trade. He lost a left hand years ago to a corn shredder but still does a full day’s work and sells farming machinery year round. Warsaw Daily Times.
A surprise donation was given to Rev Wright by members of the congregations he serves. At the M. E. church 38 people gathered to present cash totaling 235 dollars and goods worth about 310 dollars as appreciation for his services.
Charles Young resumed his duties as rural carrier on route No 3 after a fifteen day vacation. Mrs S B Flora delivered the mail to patrons on his route with prompt and efficient service.

Frank Gall, brother, died in a similar runaway accident years earlier. Funeral held Friday at 2:20 from Brethren Church with Rev G W Rench officiating.
Mrs. Sarah Robbins of north-west of Claypool died Friday morning after a paralysis stroke, following her husband’s death weeks earlier. Born May 8 1827 in Cumberland County Pennsylvania, she moved to Ohio as a child and to Kosciusko County Indiana in adulthood. She married George C Robbins on Oct 10 1944 and had three daughters and a son. Funeral services were held at Mt Pleasant with Rev E Wright officiating.
Elias Bively will move back into the hotel property next week and will not engage in the hotel.
State Superintendent Fassett A. Cotton urges Indiana teachers to observe Arbor Day on October 25. The bulletin emphasizes forests as essential for life and industry and advocates forestry lessons to show a forest's national value and the need to replace disappearing woods.
Walter Homman and wife departed Tuesday morning by the south bound train for Cardena Mexico. Mr Homman will serve as fireman on a Mexican railroad engine aided by Homer Wells who secured the position. Wages and prospects in Mexico entice the move. the experiment may bring quick promotion.
John Parish of Goshen purchases the Hoover restaurant at Claypool for 3900 and will take possession of the business as soon as arrangements are completed.

Roy C. Hunt was convicted by a Kesciucko circuit court jury of assault and battery with intent to kill Lyman Sears of Pierceton. He faces a sentence of two to fourteen years at the Jeffersonville reformatory. The jury returned a verdict after a short deliberation, dated August 30.
A 22 pound stone moved nine yards by a kick. If three pounds of active pressure move one pound of dead weight one foot, the man’s force equals 66 pounds applied one foot for nine yards. He would limp for about three weeks based on typical injury recovery in such tricks.
