A large fundraising campaign begins Monday aiming to raise 100 million dollars in the United States for the Red Cross War Fund. The effort seeks broad support across cities and communities to back humanitarian relief.
Lake Township prepares to raise 650 for the Red Cross War Fund as solicitors begin Monday at 8:00 am. The campaign supports national $100 million goal with Kosciusko county at 19 500. Donors receive official receipts and a second Red Cross badge. those without cash may still give later.
The Kosciusko County draft board announces calls totaling 65 to 70 local men for army camps and barracks this month. An initial request for 31 men to depart the week of May 25 was followed by an emergency call for 35 more to report to Columbus Ohio Barracks next Monday May 20. Names of those to be included include Reuben Cline Paul Day James Helser Sherman Hildenbrand Herschel Drudge Ed Heverdeen Orval G Carr John Lackey and John Helser.
A sizable audience gathered Tuesday evening at Franklin church west of town for a Red Cross meeting. Speakers outlined plans for the 2nd Red Cross War Fund Drive set to begin next Monday morning May 20, with Seward township expected to raise its allotment within a few hours.
The town hall dinner today drawn many attendees from town and country. The Mazda class of the M. E. Sunday school hosted serving. proceeds go to the Red Cross, with a final total to be reported in the next issue.
A Sunday School convention of Seward township will be held at the Fairview A B Church northwest of here on next Sunday May 19. An excellent program has been arranged for the afternoon and appears elsewhere in this issue.
James Ramsey and his family moved Monday from their longtime residence west of town to a newly purchased place north of town. The property was formerly owned by Mrs. Liiie Brenneman.
Rev Blocker will give a special sermon at 10 30 Sunday forenoon at the M E H Course. He will discuss the present great world struggle and urges all locals to attend and invite friends to be present for a rewarding and informative message.
T S Keller, a Dundee Ohio coal train engineer, begins the Second War Loan drive by sending a five dollar contribution to the Red Cross. He pleads neighbors to give more than spare change, noting mothers and sons overseas and a $50 Liberty bond he will send to his son Leonard.
Rev. A. Z. Fryberger will deliver a special sermon at the Lutheran church this Sunday evening. An invitation is extended to all to attend.
A son named Everett Russell was born on May 8 to Mrs Russell Gunter of Punckerton. The father was drafted into U.S. service last fall.
Mr and Mrs Will Brown of Kern farm north of town are the parents of a baby boy born last week.
S B Burdge with wife and daughter attended the Jack family reunion in Roam. Roy Burdge and family from Tipton joined the gathering for a pleasant, social Sunday event.
Entertained members held a Monday night meeting at Mrs. Florence Swilhart's residence in Victoria.
Last Friday afternoon members of the embroidery club were entertained at the Mrs W W Homman home.
Mrs Selah Murphy hosted a Mothers club gathering last Friday afternoon at the C L Leonard home with members in attendance for a social program.
The board of trustees of Silver Lake will meet in regular session tomorrow Friday evening. Officials anticipate important business matters to come before the council during the session.
Wilbur Craig and family of near Macy sold their residence on Elm Street in the northwest part of Lown to Samuel Lowman after a Wednesday showing.
Announcement notes distribution of one thousand Ford tractors across Indiana in coming weeks. Tractors sold without profit. each pulls two plows and can plow eight acres in ten hours using about 212 gallons of kerosene per acre. This county receives 14 tractors.
Twenty eight members of the North Manchester junior high class attended a Friday afternoon picnic at the park with Misses Empson and Beakley. The event was described as very enjoyable and well arranged by observers.

A sizable audience attended the United Brethren church last Sunday after Sunday School for a Mother’s Day program. W H Kern gave an engaging talk on the day’s origin and the duties of children to mothers, calling for daily respect for mothers. Several songs and recitations by children followed, with services planned to continue annually to foster better citizenship.
