Weed Control as a Community Farm Problem

The United States Department of Agriculture states weed control is a community issue, not just individual effort. Spraying Potatoes to Control Blight in Aroostook Tests

Tests conducted last year by the U S Department of Agriculture in cooperation with the Maine Agricultural Experiment Station show that thorough spraying with Bordeaux mixture can control late blight in potatoes. Results indicate yield increases of about 27 to 36 percent over unsprayed plots, with higher gains when earlier and more frequent applications were made, and note potential profit when costs are included. The findings apply especially to potato regions north of a New York to Chicago line.
