About seventy year old Mojanin Day committed suicide by hanging at his home near Akron on Wednesday afternoon. Family notes long mental trouble. after a public sale the missing man was found lifeless, a rope about his neck, by rafters. He is survived by his wife and several children. funeral details unavailable.
Edward Ayers visited South Whitley Monday and formed a partnership with Dotta Muller of North Manchester to purchase the Hull restaurant business. The pair are described as hustlers and are wished abundant success in their new venture.

A large congregation attended the U B Church quarterly service last Sunday forenoon. Rev Groves preached an engaging sermon and many seekers knelt at the altar. Nearly one hundred participants partook of the sacrament.
Mrs. L. W. Myers of St. Louis is reported getting along nicely after a serious eye case. Three operations are required in total with one already performed successfully and the second planned soon.
The Regenos family narrowly escaped asphyxiation from escaping coal gas after a store fire. Mrs Regenos woke with gas smell and breathing difficulty, rousing Elmer Regenos who opened doors and windows. Glen Tullis was also affected but recovered. Summe Brothers announce third annual opening in Yount store room March 14 11 and 16 with new offers.
John Sells of Pear Rose Hill claims the creation of the longest sausage in the area measuring sixty three feet. The boast invites challengers to beat the length by bringing their entries to the RECORD office for verification.
Howard Collett has purchased the Summe property in the south part of town and will occupy it within a few days. He has been farming at the Elizabeth Snoberger farm southeast of town and will give up farming to some extent.
Paul Stickel of Kibbie and Doris Hull of Fennville wed on February 14 in Michigan. Stickel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stickel, formerly of this place, and grandson of Mrs. H. A. Stickel residing southeast of here.
The Craig and Hildenbrand restaurant and bakery has new ownership by Charles Pearson who sold it to the pair months ago. Pearson is a well known local figure and Hilda hints that the partner may move to California in the spring.
A. J. Scott has rapidly improved in recent weeks and came to town last Saturday for the first time since his operation at home west of town. He and his wife thank neighbors and friends for their kindness during the illness and hope for similar care if misfortune again visits their home.
Jacob Walburn aged 70 died Tuesday February 20 at his home seven miles northeast of Rochester from pleurisy that led to heart neuralgia. Survived by one daughter two sons one sister and three brothers. Funeral postponed due to bad roads, held Saturday at Bethlehem Church with burial in Sycamore Cemetery four miles northeast of Rochester. Reverend White of the Burket MB Church officiated.

Chester Deafenbaugh who purchased the switchboard of the Co-Operative Telephone Company has bought the John Snorder property in the northwest part of town and will move the exchange office there about the first of April. He resides five miles east and will relocate to town soon.
Mrs Martha Eckman aged 87 long invalid died at two PM Monday at her daughter Mrs Samuel Smiths home in Silver Lake from old age and complications of diseases. Funeral from M E church Wednesday with Rev A D Buek officiating and interment in Lakeview cemetery.
Martha Bassett born October 11 1824 in Cincinnati Ohio died February 26 1912 aged 87 years 4 months and 15 days. She married John Eckman and had eleven children six preceded her in death with 31 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1888. She joined the Dunkerd church at eighteen and later joined the M E church. She suffered long afflictions but was cared for by her children until death.
Mortgage exemptions must be filed in March or April and at no other time. Persons with mortgages on real estate may file for tax exemptions up to 760 or half the assessed value if valuation is 1 400 or more then 3700 can be deducted providing mortgage amounts reach that. One person can file for full amount but several exemptions allowed if total does not exceed 700. Joint ownership requires all owners to sign and 700 limit applies. Firms corporations lodges cannot secure exemptions. Bring land description to the Record office to prepare papers and save tax.

At a meeting in Indianapolis with State Superintendent Charles A. Greathouse the board acted to compel the surrender of all Indiana high school certifications on June 30, 1912, pending re examination of the institutions.
