Mrs. Wil a May Richardson died in Milwaukee after weeks of illness at age about seventy. She once lived in Silver Lake and was married to William Hlaney. Remains were brought to Warsaw for funeral and burial, with surviving husband and sister Mrs. T A Goodwin of Wasaw.
Ike Lee age 30 of Columbia City died by hanging last Sunday afternoon. His body was found in a barn near his home with friends unable to determine his motive for the death by own action.
Mrs. H. B. Ferverda returned to her Leesburg home after a two week stay to help care for her son Roscoe Ferverda's family. While visiting she became seriously ill for several days.
In Adams County many diphtheria cases have developed prompting closure of several schools to curb the outbreak. Local health officials urge vigilance and report ongoing efforts to control transmission.
Members of the Embroidery Club were entertained last Friday afternoon at Mrs W W Homman's home on Elm Street.
Charles Wesley Lukens 71 a North Topeka hardware dealer died at his Rochester district home yesterday morning. Born March 16 1851 in Kosciusko Indiana he moved to Kansas in 1881 and later formed a carriage and implement business with his brother Jonas A Lukens. He leaves a widow Mrs Laura A Lukens and three children Roy Lukens Mrs Kirk P Cecil of Portland Oregon and Mrs Wayne Horning of Topeka along with his brother. He had been in ill health for two years and was well remembered by old residents.
Word reached Silver Lake that Floyd Daffer formerly of this place but now a Mishawaka resident was seriously ill at his home there.
The latest report from Mrs. A. J. Hill says she is getting along very nicely after an operation in a Rochester hospital. She is at her home southwest of town and it is hoped she will rapidly recover.
J P Snyder a Mentone resident in failing health for months is in serious condition due to amenia. He received a blood transfusion from his sons James and Paul after being moved from his home to Warsaw and then to a hospital for treatment.
Aged physician Dr David Ginther died recently and his funeral was held last Friday in North Manchester with interment in the local cemetery. He was about 75 years old and had lived most of his life in Wabash county.
Mrs. Nancy Dentzer remains in very serious condition at her Glaypool home after a period of illness believed related to cancer. She has been under care for several days and her family awaits further updates.
Mrs. William Snoke lies seriously ill at her home about a mile and a half north of town after a sudden illness Thursday and a stroke Monday morning paralyzed the right side and affected speech. Her condition has improved slightly in recent days.
Injured by a wagon loaded with logs, Day of Akron slipped while picking corn and was run over. The wagon ran up his leg, but no bones were broken and he is hoped to recover soon.
Today marks Washington’s birthday, a Father of Our Country birthday observance. No mail was delivered on rural routes. carriers will resume Friday with an enormous mail volume to deliver.
Miss Gladys Carr leaves the Leckrones’ home where she had stayed seven weeks and goes to her residence north of town last Saturday.
Jacob Flohr and his wife and family moved Tuesday from their southeast residence to a farm near Gilead. Mrs. Flohr’s mother Mrs. Kroft, who lived with them, accompanied the move and the family plans that site as their future home.
Wayne township farmers in Fulton county plan a five division hunt to kill wolves invading prairie regions. The drive began at nine o clock Thursday morning February 22 and will continue until all divisions join. Outcome not known at press time.
The Lyric Theatre reopened last Saturday after a months long closure and showed good pictures. It will run new screenings on Wednesday and Saturday evenings weekly under manager Joe McKown.
The county endures one of the coldest weeks with temperatures near zero. Snow began Monday evening, accumulating about four inches in the countryside before tapering off around 11 PM.

North Webster crowned county champions after wins in Pierce ton tourney. Friday night Silver Lake lost to Sidney 8 to 22, in front of a large crowd. Receipts totaled about $900 to be shared among players after expenses.
A farmers exposition runs this week at the Indiana State Fair Grounds in Indianapolis from February 19 to 24 under Indiana Board of Agriculture auspices.
George Newhouse and Dick Geiger purchased two car loads of coal from the Big Four wreck north of town and began selling it locally. The coal had remained on the right of way for weeks as road officials grew tired of handling it.
Officials warn drivers without 1923 license tags face fines as leniency expires. Last week seven arrests in North Manchester and twenty three in Wabash show enforcement rising with more likely before month end.

Surgeons at an Atlanta hospital operated on Glen Freeman, removing the heart from its normal position to repair a knife wound and then sewed it back. The hour and twenty minute procedure left the patient reported to be getting along very nicely.
H D McClelland, director of the automobile department, warned Indiana drivers that cars and trucks without 1923 license plates are subject to arrest and a fine up to 50 dollars. The rule targets all autos on the road after February 15 must display 1923 plates.

The Parent-Teachers Association meeting postponed due to cold weather will be held Thursday evening in the high school auditorium. City police ordered to strictly enforce a new ordinance that authorizes arrest of any minor found with cigarettes. The measure aims to curb underage smoking seen as rising statewide.
Sure Some Producer Jonas Brown of Avilla boasts the most prolific sow in Noble county and possibly Indiana. The sow farrowed 21 pigs last Sunday, 18 surviving and being cared for by three sows. Since 1919 this mother pig has produced 137 pigs through multiple litters.
A Danville Illinois Soldiers Home report dated February 14 shows 926 on duty 236 on extra duty 196 sick in quarters 436 absent with leave and 7 absent without leave totaling 2027. It lists 375 beds vacant in barracks and 55 in the hospital, with Mr Wood recovering and expected to return to Indiana early spring.
Mr and Mrs Jacob Haney and daughter Chioie attended Mrs D W Krisher 77th birthday gathering at her North Manchester home last Sunday. Relatives joined in a sumptuous dinner with a cake bearing 77 candles baked by Misa Gladys Haney.
